Google Analytics – Events vs Goals

Google Analytics: Events vs Goals

There is a difference of Goals and Events in Google Analytics.

Events you can map out clicks and stuff to see how users are interacting with your site. Goals are more specific and have more to do with the bottom line of your site… an actual goal rather than monitoring:

Events – Any interaction that takes place within your site, you define. found in Behaviours

Goals – Any interaction on your site that is super important to your business found in Conversions

Event Goals – You can set up Events to be tracked as Goals, too.

*Frequency per visit: Goals are generally counted once per session, regardless of how many times it’s been achieved, whereas events are counted multiple times per session

Events can be set up in two ways:

1. Google Tag Manager – Easy implementation

2. Hard Coded Tag – This requires some manual coding and a bit more tedious, but basically you put a hard coded tag beside the link or w.e on the source code

  2. Duration of Surfing
  3. Pages / Session
  4. Events (Event Goals!)

*Goal Sets: When you set up goals in Analytics, you can group your goals into goal sets.
